About Us

Colors of Expression was founded by 8 students from CUHK in 2024. We are concerned about the relationship between children with ASD and their parents, we believe art could provide a space to increase their mutual understanding.

Background

ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects an individual's social activities, communication skills, and behavior patterns.

Main Symptoms of ASD

Social interaction: Often have difficulty understanding the emotions and intentions of others, as well as expressing their feelings properly.

Language expression: Often reuse certain words, have fixed interests and behavior patterns, and are resistant to changes and new things.

Extreme sensitivity to sensory stimuli: Have special reactions to noise, light, smells, etc., will feel uncomfortable and anxious in certain environments.  (Seltzer., 2003)

Our Goal

In the 4-session workshop, we would like to facilitate parent-child communication and interaction, and create  enjoyable memories for our participants.

Our Mission

Bridging the current service gap - similar projects in HK aim at symptom reduction of children with ASD, but we focus on the parent-child relationship to improve the lives of families with children with ASD.

Our Vision

Participants can replicate the content of the workshop at home from time to time, transferring the learned experience of connected art making to shared art activities at home, sustaining the positive effects of the workshop on parent-child relationship. In the long run, positive attachment and mutual communication is hoped to be fostered.
